Our beginning goes back to July 21st 1941, when Mr. Pedro Saro Martínez took the exclusive representation for the north of the country of international and some national laboratories.

As time went by this activity was consolidated by promoting the products with physicians and distributors, as well as sales to wholesalers and retailers operating in the north.

In 1952 with a good market penetration, he took the exclusive representation of American laboratories such as Wellcome and Upjhon among others, such laboratories were not known in the country because at that time the therapeutic tendencies were coming from Europe, and were strongly interrupted by World War II.

At that time the group had a small laboratory for pharmaceutical products called Laboratorios del Norte, S.A., a promotion company Productos Medicinales, S.S. and a distribution company called QUÍMICA Y FARMACIA, S.A.

In 1967 with a joint investment between Burroughs Wellcome and Química y Farmacia, S.A. it was established a Wellcome manufacturing facility in the city of Monterrey, NL commercializing the product in its original form including in its label “Made in Mexico”. The business continues running like this until 1974, when  Wellcome and Química y Farmacia, S.A. separated by mutual agreement.

It is at this time when the Manufacturing, Distribution and Promotion activities merge into one single company and the new Química y Farmacia S.A. de C.V. was born, with manufacturing facilities in the city of Ramos Arizpe Coahuila and with a growing penetration as a Government supplier for institutions like IMSS, SSA, ISSSTE.

In 1997, QUÍMICA Y FARMACIA S.A. DE C.V. was bought by PERRIGO Co. who is the largest store brand manufacturer in the United States. This consolidated QUIFA as one of the strongest pharmaceutical companies in Mexico.

In 2003-2004  we invested in the construction of a second Manufacturing Plant with 2,575 square meters of construction, dedicated to Oral Solids production.
